What a great way to celebrate Mickey Mouse's 80th birthday! An announcement just came in celebrating Disney's partnership with Gowalla.
Rather than partnering up with Facebook Places or Foursquare, Disney has
Disney has decided to partner with location service Gowalla for an immersive location-based campaign to help people explore its flagship Disneyworld and Disneyland parks.
This partnership has a strong focus on custom Passport pages, not only to show off Disney-branded stamps...but also tagging it in with a check-in and photo stream.
This new page, Disney and Gowalla, also has a an amazing feature, allowing users to earn Disney-branded pins when you complete specific trips/check-ins within the Disney Parks.
Hundreds upon hundreds of stamps for rides and locales have been created throughout the Disney Parks including exciting locations like "The Haunted Mansion" and the fireworks show...just can checkin...and earn a stamp!
Because Disney is the world's most-recognized entertainment brand, this is a huge partnership landed by Gowalla, hoping it will drive new users to the location-based service. It has recently struggled, competing with the likes of Foursquare and Facebook Places.
Disney did not think either of the two were the perfect fit for their idea of this exploration experience, so, the partnership with Gowalla seemed like a match.
And, because the idea of "location" is still not considered mainstream, it is still to be determined just how many new users and fans the Mouse can drive to "check-in"!
